Why does the church need to talk about race?
Monday 15th March at 7.30pm online
Why does the church need to talk about race? Ben Lindsay, in his book ‘We Need to Talk About Race’, speaks of the white supremacy iceberg. The tip of the iceberg is overt racist - hate crimes, violent racist attacks, racial slurs….
We know this is wrong, socially unacceptable and in some cases illegal. However we need help to see the secondary hidden layer of the iceberg: covert, socially acceptable racism. Do we understand white privilege? Have we thought about implicit bias? We need to melt the iceberg and need help to see how to do it.
This online event will include short talks and discussion with Mike Sohn and Gabby Samuel. Mike is a British born South Korean in his final year studying at Oak Hill Theological College. Gabby is on the staff at Brixton Baptist Church as well as working part time for FIEC (Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches) engaging in issues of diversity. Please put the date in your diary: Monday 15th March at 7.30pm, hosted on our YouTube channel.
